After 3.75 years of hard work and during a global pandemic, Ryan has submitted an excellent thesis on the microstructure evolution during electron powder bed fusion of Ti-6Al-4V studied using 3D EBSD. Ryan has not only been able to provide new fundamental insights into 3D microstructure formation as a function of scanning strategies, he has also developed new codes to get more out of 3D EBSD data. Timely, his second first author paper was accepted in JMSC last week, and there is more to come. To celebrate Ryan’s thesis submission, the team had a virtual and f2f drink (Ryan is back in the US) Sunday night (US) and Monday morning (Australia). Thanks to our friend Kathryn for organising French champagne in Baltimore. He is also the first AUSMURI PhD student to submit a thesis!
